A Thought For Mothers Day 2012

Mothers Day 2012 UK is on March 18th. So what about turning Baby Cards on its head and getting baby to send a card or a gift to Mum?
Mothers Day 2012 For Your Baby
Well we know baby is going to need a bit of help here and that is where Dad steps in, so in case you are not up to speed Dad, let me tell you that you now have two Mothers Day gifts to sort out, one for your own Mum and one for your wife from baby.

If you are feeling stuck over this, can I make a suggestion for you. For cards go with something different and special, try a visit to Scentacard.com to see what scented cards they might be able to suggest.

As to a present, the best thing you can do is to go the photo route and have a gift made for you from photos of (a) You and your family for your Mum and (b)photos of baby for your wife. Try a site called PhotosToMovie.com and they will do the lot for you. Get started right away though as Mothers Day 2012 will creep up a whole lot faster than you think it will.

Kate says she wants to start a family!

Well now Catherine and William are married, the questions always start – when are you going to start a family?

Probably drives the happy couple mad, they will when they will, but for Kate and William it is all so much bigger. The newspapers speculate and make stuff up, blogs have conversations going like this one!
However while in Canada on their royal tour, Kate did say to a small girl that she would love to have one like her.

Still, we did run our poll on baby names for them and these are the two top names suggested:
Baby Card for a boy
If they have a boy the choice was : Noah, seems ok for a Prince and just as good for a King.
Baby card for a girl
If they have a girl the choice was : Isabella, she may well become Queen if they change the inheritance laws.

Let us hope that when the time comes, Catherine will choose a baby stroller that faces her so she can talk to her darling baby.

Kate and William new baby names

Now that our glamorous pair are married, in keeping with tradition the next question is what baby names will they choose.  It is not so easy for them as for us normal folk, although we get enough problems as it is – someone always thinks our choices are awful.

But for the future King and Queen of GB, it is so much harder, no doubt  every one of us will have a view not to mention the whole of the media who will have a field day with whatever baby names they choose.  Do you remember the fuss when Zara was chosen and then Beatrice and Eugenie?  All rather different baby names for sure expecially for a Royal but we are used to them now and it seems ok.

However these new baby names for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are even more important, their child will be King (or maybe Queen but that is another story!) so the baby names they select will have to be suitable for that high position.

Any ideas we could send to them?

Celine Dion confused over baby names

The 42-year-old singer and her husband René Angélil welcomed Eddy and Nelson to the world in October, after enduring several rounds of in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The pair also have ten-year-old son Rene-Charles, and are thrilled to have added to their family.

Although they had tried to prepare for the twins, Céline admits bringing them home was a culture shock. She was so busy caring for them she didn’t even think about naming them for a week, and then only after René insisted it was time.

“René said, ‘Listen, people are starting to call me. What’s their names? I can’t tell them A and B again – that’s not working,’” Céline told talk show host Oprah Winfrey, in an interview airing on Monday.

“[The names were confusing.] It’s like, ‘Was the hat switched? I thought this was Baby A?’ And I’m like, ‘Stop [with] the As and the Bs. I’m going to do C [and] Ds right now. My name is Céline Dion with a C and a D, so don’t push me because I’m close to the edge!’”

The star is now happy with the names she and René picked, with former South African president Nelson Mandela and songwriter Eddy Marnay the inspiration.

Céline is French-Canadian, and her heritage is important to her. She is adamant all her children will learn about it as they grow up, and is keen for all three of them to speak French.

“We mainly speak French to [the twins],” she explained. “And they speak French to us, too! They wave, they speak French – they’ve got it all.”

Baby Cards and What to Say

What can you say in a baby card, this stops a surprising number of us in our tracks. When I was running a floristry business, the moment would come when I would have to say “And what would you like to say in the card?”  Silence.  Still longer silence if it was a man calling. Somehow we just can’t write what we are feeling, it comes out wrong, so here are a few phrases to start you off.

The traditional is fine – Congratulations and Best Wishes

The word ‘welcome’ is just right  -  Welcome to your new baby

If you know the child is a boy or girl  -  Welcome to your new baby Boy/ Girl

This one sounds lovely  -  Welcome to the new little bundle of joy!

Ok but could be a bit Wedding Anniversary type  – Congratulations, and enjoy the years together!

Enjoy this special time!

Babies are special, babies are fun,
congratulations on your new little one!

Welcome to the family!

A dream come true!!

God bless your child.

Or a simple   -  Congrats!

Congratulations, Mummy and Daddy!

We are so excited for you and wish you all the best for the newest addition to your family!  Can’t wait to meet her/him!

We are so happy for both of you.  Congratulations!

Welcome, baby!  We are happy you are here!

A new little baby to love!  Congratulations from all of us!

Welcome, Baby!

If you have any favourites just leave a comment and maybe it will help someone who is stuck for the right words.

Baby Card Should You Send One?

It is quite fun going to the shops or online to choose a baby card for a new baby. True but is there anything better you could do instead?

When you have a new baby most new mums do get a lot of baby cards, a lot while still in the birth suite and somewhat less when they get home. It may be a good plan to do something different so that your congratulations don’t get lost in the many so here are a couple of ideas:

1. Can you visit instead? Especially when a mum is first at home alone with new baby, it is a scary time. We all think that everything we need to do will be automatic, instinct right? That didn’t work too well for me and seeing a friendly face at my door just when I was wondering what on earth to do to stop my baby crying, was heaven. So even if you are a fair way away, an early visit with a listening ear is really valuable.

2. The second thing to perhaps do is to send a very small posy of flowers, small because new mum is not going to have a lot of time to fuss with big bouquets. Try a fragrant bunch of freesias from Guernsey, try here: flowers by post
That will be appreciated for sure but add the cherry on the top with your note. Obviously offer many congrats to all but follow up with a definite offer of help.

Such as: Can I come and hoover through for you tomorrow?
Would it help if I walked the dog for a week or two?
Give me three jobs to do that will help you out a bit.

Take it from me, this definite and not woolly ‘let me know if I can do anything’ will be pounced upon and so so appreciated.

Any words from new mums on what they would really like to be offered? Love to hear.

Top Baby Names 2010 List

Well the info is in, the top baby names choices for 2010, not a lot of surprises but if you are thinking hard about a name for your baby, you might do worse than take a look at what is current and popular, either to follow on or to avoid.

Top 2010 Baby Girl Names

Top is Olivia, then Ruby and then Grace -  all rather elegant names wouldn’t you say?

Then Lily, Jessica and Amelia -  definitely more on the ‘times past’  spectrum but fashionable of course.

Chloe, Isabella and Emma make up the rest of the top 10.

By co incidence Isabella is my choice for Kate and Will when they have a baby girl, I must be psychic.

So on to the boys:

Top 2010 Baby Boy Names

First is Jack, then Alfie and Harry – going for the tough, no nonsense angle here I think.

Then Thomas, Oliver, Daniel and Joshua – no need to say where they came from, think Bible.

Completing the top 10 are Charlie, Mohammed and George – all names with royal connotations.

Oddly enough, although lists do differ, in general there are not the celeb type, or tv characters type names at the top this time and my choice of name for Kate and Will if they have a boy was Noah, that comes up quite high now too.

Interesting stuff, which are your favs?  Hit the Like button and let us all know.

Bugaboo Strollers Got It Right

Well how amazing a discovery about baby strollers is this? Probably the most expensive, most ‘celebrity’, most desired of baby strollers is a Bugaboo one, how pleased I was then to find that this manufacturer chooses in almost all their models to have baby facing Mum!

Joy to find, they appreciate the importance of the Mother to the child, baby wants to see the most important sight in the world ie Mum, not the rushing world going by with so many scary shocks in it.

No, Bugaboo have gone away from almost all other manufacturers and made their baby strollers the right way round.  How many celebs have bought these strollers, well a lot is the answer, probably most of them didn’t even give the reasons a thought apart from being fashionable, but Bugaboo thought about it.

Might I suggest that if you can afford it, that Bugaboo baby strollers are the absolute ones to go for, keep your baby safe, chatter to him and let her see your smiling face, that is the world’s best comforter for a baby or small child.

Please LIKE this post to get the word about, let’s get new mums and dads making an informed choice to the benefit of their child.

Facebook Page And Baby Strollers

I have now set up a Facebook page to try and get support for baby strollers that face the mother and not out into the world on their own for the baby.

This is so important, I can’t think why it ever occurred to any manufacturer to make the strollers face the other way, away from the most important sight in the world for a tiny child – its Mother’s face.  I am asking people to Like the page so if you agree with me, please go here right now and click : LIKE – it will only take a min.

When I have enough Likes and Comments I will count them up and then tell manufacturers that there are a lot of people out there who agree that baby strollers should face Mum and not a scary world.  This could make a huge difference, most people haven’t even given it a thought and choose their new strollers by how they look, the colours and weight etc.

But they are missing the most important thing completely, if you asked a new Mum if she intended to push her small baby or child alone out into a rushing world, she would be shocked and say of course not, how cruel.  But this is what happens if the stroller faces front!

Let’s get our voice out there so that new Mums at least give it a thought before they choose a stroller. Remember the risks a baby faces alone if not :  a rushing, racing world, dogs at baby height, cars and buses coming close, confusing crowds.

And then there are the things baby is missing out on : smiles from Mum, comfort from seeing her, not feeling alone and scared, chatter and pointing out of things.

Have your say and please help me with this, go here and Like or Comment :

Baby Cards With A Difference

Congratulations all round! Someone you know has had their baby and it is a boy so now you need baby boys cards to choose from.

In some parts of the world there are many biases towards wanting a new baby boy, a son to follow on the family name but is that still true in most of the world today I wonder?

The answer is a generally speaking, no. Maybe in some countries it is still the case ie China where it is not just a preference but more like a desperate desire especially since there is still a one child policy in some parts of the country.

But for most of us, the birth of a new baby boy is certainly a joy with the over riding feeling of relief that a baby is here no matter if it a baby boy or a baby girl.

Now it is your turn to mark that event with a baby boy card so where to start.  The shops of course have loads and loads of baby cards and you will likely find something you think will be suitable.  Or if you decide to go online you will find many cards in the personalised section where the card is printed and sent for you.

However you will not be alone in your choices done these ways, everyone else will be sending similar cards so yours will not stand out, nor maybe will it have anything special about it that means it will be kept by the new mum.

So here is the thing, what about choosing a baby card that is truly different and has an extra dimension to it? I am talking about a scented card. Scented with what you may ask, my answer is that the ones I have found are actually scented with baby powder!  So lovely, they can be written and posted for you if you like or if you want a sniff first, have it sent to you.

You won’t be disappointed with these baby cards, they are lovely and the scenting is done professionally so it will last well, these cards are usually kept for ages. So I can recommend that you take a look at Scentacard where you will find some lovely scents and of course, your special baby boy cards.
